NJPW: Satoshi Kojima vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi (January 4, 2011)

I want to try to review all the Wrestle Kingdom main events while they’re free on New Japan World.

Welcome back to Limb Work City! Tanahashi goes after Kojima’s taped shoulder. Kojima attacks Tanahashi’s leg with a lariat from the floor while Tanahashi’s on the apron and some leg submissions. They go back and forth, hitting each other with big things and kicking out. Kojima hits an avalanche-style Koji Cutter. Tanahashi hits a High Fly Flow to the back, but Kojima gets the knees up when he goes for another one. Tanahashi hits two Twelve Sixes. Tanahashi takes a nearly disturbing bump on an apron lariat; he looks like he’s aiming to land on his head when his body isn’t actually going that way. Kojima’s shoulder is hurt too much to capitalize on a later lariat. Tanahashi hits a couple dragon suplexes. He hits a High Fly Flow crossbody, followed by a traditional High Fly Flow to win the IWGP belt. Very entertaining and engaging struggle for dominance.

Winner – Hiroshi Tanahashi

Rating – Great
